Paralegal, Labor and Employment Law

The paralegal, labor and employment law, is responsible for providing administrative legal support relating to legal and compliance issues associated with labor and employment law, particularly with regards to the companys human resources function. This position will perform legal assistant activities to support litigation, compliance and other matters and will investigate employment discrimination charges and complaints, wage and hour issues, child labor issues and other employment law related issues as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Analyze, investigate and draft responsive summaries of charges and complaints from federal, state and local governmental agencies to include an overview of complainant employment history.
Ensure summaries are accurate, cohesive and comprehensive and highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the case based on available information; request additional and comparative information as needed.
Draft responsive, accurate, and effective position statements to federal, state, and local governmental agencies or complainant counsel in response to charges and complaints.
Respond to requests for additional information from federal, state and local governmental agencies; compose and send routine correspondence.
Provide support to and communicate with outside counsel regarding litigation matters and discovery to include drafting discovery responses, preparing exhibits and extrapolating, condensing and redacting data as needed.
Prepare reports and organize voluminous and/or complicated data as requested for use by internal clients and third parties; Work with department administrative assistant to complete reports.
Act as a liaison between the employment law group, internal clients and third parties, such as outside counsel, as needed.
Conduct legal research via internet, Lexis Nexis, Metafile and PeopleSoft.
Create and maintain standard operating procedures; establish and maintain accurate and complete electronic and paper files.
Support assistant general counsel, labor and employment law, and director, labor and employment law counsel, with additional projects to accomplish department goals as needed.
Review legal subpoenas directed to labor and employment law group for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance.
Review and analyze Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation request documents.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Five (5) years experience providing administrative support regarding labor and employment law legal and compliance issues.
Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.
Ability to understand and follow English instructions.
Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same.
Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
Bachelors degree in business administration or related field; or paralegal certificate.
Experience processing federal, state and local Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) administrative charges and complaints.

Environmental and Physical Demands
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands or fingers to handle, hold or feel objects, tools or controls, talk, see, hear and perform repetitive movements with both hands. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk on carpet, tile or concrete, carry, push, lift or pull up to 10 lbs.
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is typically not substantially exposed to adverse working conditions.
